Earlier this summer, Rhumba (formed the the partnership of Dubway Studios and Murmur Music) produced a jingle for the automobile service, AAA, via the agency, Majestic Media. Michael Rubin composed and arranged the music, while Nathaniel Reichman was the lead audio producer. Rhumba produced the vocal session in the Mezzanine studio. The official radio spot was recently mixed in October by Dubway engineer Zac Suskevich.
Olfactory wins Best Dramatic Short at the Berlin Sci-Fi Filmfest
Congratulations to everyone involved in the short film Olfactory for winning Best Dramatic Short film at the Berlin Sci-Fi Filmfest this November! A job well done!
Last year, Dubway had the opportunity to produce the audio — location recording, ADR, foley, SFX, mixing — for Christopher Piazza's short film, Olfactory.
The science fiction drama surrounds an experimental product "Olfactory" that allows users to re-experience memories, starring Kieran Mulcare, Alison Barton and Molly Camp.

'Season Isle' on Panoply's Pinna!
This autumn, Panoply launched a new subscription app for kids, Pinna, which The New York Times calls "a digital toy box full of ad-free audio for listeners 4-12.” Along with Remy's Place, Dubway has been working closely with the podcast network on the production of Season Isle. The series is now available for listening on the Pinna app.
Produced by Rhumba Recorders and recorded at Dubway Studios, Season Isle is a highly produced 20-episode radio play, complete with scoring and intensive sound design. Rhumba cast and directed the talent as well as the scoring and audio post.
Premiering this autumn, the fantasy audio series Season Isle releases one episode each day.
The thrilling story surrounds 10-year-old twins, Juniper and Zephyr Hillhouse, and their adventures on Season Isle. "This enchanting island is divided into four seasons, and sometimes a problem arising in one season can only be solved with assistance from another season. In these moments of need, the denizens of Season Isle turn to the center of the island for help. There live The Twins and their guardian, House on the Hill, an animate, magical house. Will Juniper and Zeph be able to help the seasons find harmony?"
New podcast: 'Permanently Damaged' with Laura Banks and Janette Barber
Among all the new podcasts coming to record with us at Dubway Studios, one to keep an ear out for is Permanently Damaged with Banks and Barber! The series, in association with Crossover Media Group and Art 19, launched this autumn on Apple Podcasts. The pair record their shows in our Main Floor studios weekly with Dubway engineer Zac Suskevich.
Permanently Damaged features hosts (and superstars) Janette Barber, six-time Emmy Award winning TV producer/writer on The Rosie O’Donnell Show and ABC’s The View and former SiriusXM host and comic, and Laura Banks, comic, Star Trek actress and movie star. "Banks and Barber are kick-ass NYC female comics and USA Today best selling co-authors, taking the podcast world by storm in this tell-all program."

Cerberus Rex: An Audio Adventure on Sci-Fi.com
Last autumn, Dubway Studios facilitated the principal dialogue recording for new radio play Cerberus Rex, in which engineer Adrian Thorstensen recorded six voice actors simultaneously in the Mezzanine Studio's Live Room. Thorstensen also worked on the final mix earlier this summer.
CERBERUS REX, written and produced by Jason Hardcastle at Heorot Media, is an hour-and-a-half long science fiction audio adventure:
"Dr. Anabela Correia, a professor of astrophysics at Hawksmoor University, travels upon request by a former colleague to Well Station, a research facility performing experiments on a mystery of physics in an underground cave. A natural explorer, Ana rushes to view the phenomenon first-hand and, accompanied by Well Station Security/Containment Officer Benjamin Wyngarde, is soon staring down at a marvel hidden deep. Then... not so deep."

Jane Ira Bloom interview for Soul and Jazz radio's "The Fringe"
Last month, soprano saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom visited Dubway to record a spotlight interview with Michael Ambrosino, for Soul and Jazz's "The Fringe" series. Bloom talks about slowing down, using every note and her new album ‘Wild Lines - Improvising Emily Dickinson’ on the tenth edition of The Fringe’s Artist Spotlight series. Jane Ira Bloom is a Grammy nominated jazz soprano saxophonist and composer, noted for her use of live electronics in her shows to alter the sound of her performance. In 2007, she was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship for musical composition, and in 2013, in her release Sixteen saunders received a Grammy nomination for the Beat Surround Sound category. "Wild Lines," her latest work for jazz quartet/spoken word inspired by the poetry of Emily Dickinson, was recently released on September 8th.
The Fringe is a two-hour on-demand program that showcases musicians from around the globe who are reshaping the landscape of Jazz. The show features music that's creative, fun, hip, curious, & thoughtful, but still familiar to anyone who listens to, and appreciates contemporary Jazz.
'Remy's Place' featured on Pinna, Panoply's new children's app
This month, the podcast network Panoply launched a new subscription app for kids, Pinna, which The New York Times calls "a digital toy box full of ad-free audio for listeners 4-12.”
Over the last few months, Dubway has been working closely with the podcast network on two of the new Rhumba-produced series. One of the audio series, Remy's Place, a musical narrative, is now available for listening on the Pinna app, with new episodes releasing weekly.
Conceived, written, and produced by Rhumba Recorders co-owner Michael Rubin with singer-songwriter Richard Julian, Remy's Place is a highly sound-designed, sonic extravaganza centered around a child, Remy, who grows up in a music café that his parents named after him.
Music features some of the best jazz players in New York City (Norah Jones, Tony Scherr, Tony Mason, Henry Butler, Matthew Munesteri, Noé Socha, Kenny Wollesen, Roy Nathanson) and was recorded live in the Mezzanine studio. Remy's Place's production adheres to Rhumba's axiom that kids programming and music should be enjoyable by all ages.
Podcast Recording for 'Block & Lot' by Brian Meier
Over the summer, our studios have been busy recording for many new podcasts, including Block & Lot by Brian Meier.
Block & Lot is a new informative podcast, by hosts Brian Meier and Jamie Highline, that brings listeners real, timely information on the real estate market, in a live talk-show format. Brian and Jamie, who work together at New York's largest real estate company, The Corcoran Group, recorded their first episodes here at Dubway, and can be listened to via iTunes.
Vocal tracking for Daniel Pigliavento
Singer and actor Daniel Pigliavento was in studio recording vocals with engineer Jake Bolles for an upcoming project.
Daniel appeared in Pitch Perfect 2, playing a member of an a cappella group in the 2015 film starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. In 2011, he also appeared as a dancer in the film Get On Up: The James Brown Story. His most recent music release, Summertime Anytime, with collaborator Hannah Bush, reached over 20,000 views on YouTube.
Post mix for 'Under The Weather'
Dubway engineer Louis Fisher worked on the audio post mix (dialogue and sound effects) for upcoming series Under The Weather. a comedic series of shorts "about a Brooklyn neighborhood adapting to climate change" written by Miriam Weiner and Katie Simms, and produced by Marin Gazzaniga.
StarTalk Radio's "Playing With Science" Podcast recording in the Mezzanine
A few episodes for StarTalk's new spin-off show Playing With Science was recorded in the Mezzanine this week. Guest interviewees included Gymnastic Olympian and sport biomechanics innovator Phil Cheetham (participating via Skype) and former lead scientist for NASA, Dr. Ellen Stofan.

Playing with Science, presented by StarTalk and Stitcher, is a podcast that explores the science behind some of the most iconic, memorable moments in sports. The new show is hosted by professional British soccer player and sports broadcaster Gary O’Reilly and Chuck Nice, voted “Fan Favorite StarTalk co-host” for the past two years. Guests include top professional athletes, sports experts, coaches, and pundits. New episodes air Wednesday nights at 7 pm ET on the StarTalk Podcast Network.
Location recording for the returning season of Cash Cab
Dubway location recordist Zac Suskevich was recording sound for the new season of Discovery Channel's Cash Cab. The series, which ran from 2005-2012, is back for a new season with original host Ben Bailey.
In the reality game show, which takes place in New York City, players picked up in the Cash Cab have to answer trivia questions before they reach their destination – and possibly win up to $1,000!
VO for Albert Watson documentary
Scottish fashion and celebrity photographer Albert Watson was recording voice overs for a documentary about his work, which included the infamous portrait of Steve Jobs. Watson's work is featured in galleries and museums worldwide. In June 2015, Queen Elizabeth II awarded him an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2015 for 'services to photography.'
Location recording for Delta Launchpad, curated by VICE
Dubway location recordist Zac Suskevich recorded the New York City edition of Delta Launchpad, a multi-city series of events hosted by Delta Air Lines and VICE Media.
Curated by VICE, the series celebrates Delta’s significant growth in Los Angeles, New York and Seattle, "providing aspiring entrepreneurs with the tools to support their creative passions, and their pursuit of travel" through daily programming. In New York City, Delta Launchpad ran from June 8-11 at Kinfolk 94 in Williamsburg with a focus on music. The music industry workshops and performances included artists Sofi Tukker, Father of Awful Records, Fatima Al Qadiri, Holy Ghost!, Palmbomen II, and Tanisha Scott.
Podcast Recording for ArtsCenter College of Design
Last week, engineer Sam Palumbo recorded a podcast for ArtCenter College of Design alumni with Lorne Buchman (right), president of the ArtCenter, and interviewee Nicholas Gustafsson (left), director of global design for PepsiCo. Also interviewed for the alumni podcast was lead designer at UNICEF, Mari Nakano.
ArtCenter is a nonprofit, private college specializing in design, located in Pasadena, CA.
Post Mix for "On a Knife Edge"
Dubway Studios did a full surround sound mix for the documentary feature, On a Knife Edge, produced by Eli Cane and directed by Jeremy Williams. Mariah Cruz worked on the dialogue cleanup, while our chief engineer Nathaniel Reichman did the post mix for the feature-length film.
On The Knife Edge, a "coming-of-age journey set on the Pine Ridge Reservation," is set against a background of rising racial tension and protest, where a Lakota teenager learns first-hand what it means to lead a new generation and enter adulthood in a world where the odds are stacked against him.
Post Mix for short film 'Chivalry' by Jono Freedrix
Dubway has had the pleasure of working on the post mixes for short films by Brooklyn film director Jono Freedrix, most recently for The Fluid Trilogy (Bloody Mary, Sucklepump, and Bun In The Oven).
This month, engineer Nathaniel Reichman worked on the mix for his latest film, Chivalry: "a sly romance about a lonesome man and his duplicitous dream girl, starring Bob Greenberg, Chayna Douglas & Sam Moyer." Mariah Cruz and Louis Fisher assisted with editing the music and SFX.
Radio interviews for The Fraternity's "Requiem" on Sony Classical
An international community of young priests known as The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, or “The Fraternity” as they have lovingly been referred to, includes some of today’s most skilled and committed singers of Gregorian chant. The community has been preparing to present ancient melodies anew, on the album Requiem, to be released on May 12, 2017 through their new international collaboration with De Montfort Music/Sony Classical.
