This book is centered around unpacking what feminism means, and who is systemically marginalized from that umbrella. Cargle also is the founder of The Loveland Group, an organization that provides free therapy and mental healthcare for Black women and gender non-conforming individuals.

Complex Podcast on “Pop Out Boyz” Recorded at Dubway

Complex Media podcast producer, Shiva Bayat, interviewed Hip-Hop quartet, “Pop Out Boyz” (Instagram: @popoutboyz) in Dubway’s Mezzanine recently.

Members of “Pop Out Boyz” were interviewed for Complex Media at Dubway Studios.

Pop Out Boyz

Members of the Hip-Hop group answered questions about their group’s inception, childhoods, and how their music careers began.

Notably, the Pop Out Boyz had recently been released from jail on charges related to credit card scheme, inspiring many of Bayat’s questions.

Dubway engineer Mark Tully used Electro-Voice RE-20 and Shure SM7 microphones to record this interview. Both microphone models are considered an industry standard for podcast recording.

This session exhibited Dubway’s ability to re-arrange its recording spaces into ideal podcast set-ups.

Randi Zuckerberg's crypto covers record at Dubway

Randi Zuckerberg–tech entrepreneur, Web3/crypto evangelist, and sister to Mark Zuckerberg–joined staff engineer Sydney Fuqua in our NYC studios last month to record a few covers extolling the values of cryptocurrency. The session was a freewheeling one–our engineer guest featured on one of the songs, and jumped in to sing backup during the choruses–and it produced a number of covers, which you can find on Zuckerberg’s Twitter or all over the internet; you can also find her cover of “We’re Not Gonna Take It”, originally by Twisted Sister, below.

CITIZENARTS premiers dramatic podcast play, "March"

Educational documentary arts organization CITIZENARTS has released MARCH, a two-part podcast in the style of a radio drama, which we had the pleasure of recording last year. The piece was tracked live in-studio, with CITIZENARTS producer Jeff Lewis in the control room and writer/director James Isaiah Gabbe directing the proceedings in the live room with the actors. Engineer Keenan DuBois tracked the recording with Dubway in NYC, keeping as much isolation between actors as possible while also making sure they had the space and flexibility to react off of one another in any given scene–especially necessary for dynamic material like March, which deals frankly with issues of nationalism and the history of Nazi Germany (and may not be suitable for small children). The piece follows a dramatized dinner party at a turning point in Germany’s 20th century history, in which an unexpected guest changes the trajectory for the evening and eventually the country.

The podcast is available on all major podcasting platforms (here’s a link to Apple’s version) and is out now!

Author Aiden Taylor (credit TAYLORMADE PUBLISHING, INC).

You can hear the entire story behind his writing this book and his publishing plans for the future at the above link, or the embedded video below. You can also learn more about him here.

Tape restoration: before and after

We do many types of audio project at Dubway Studios, including a large variety of work in the audio restoration and preservation fields. These types of jobs are constantly ongoing quietly in our studios–we have a room dedicated to tape transfers and audio restoration–but rarely get a shine publicly. What better time to show the process in action?

The above tape came to us with a few different molds on the outside, as you can see from the discoloration on the tape. Tapes in storage can get dry over time, becoming brittle and cracked, or moldy if the storage location is too damp.

If you’re curious (or have tapes of your own that need some TLC), check out the process below, and see before/after pictures at the bottom!
