Tape Baking & Restoration

Bring us your old analog recordings and we will bring them back to life! As some of you may know, analog tape starts to deteriorate after about 10 years. The binder loosens up and literally sheds off the tape, destroying your recording. Through a process called 'tape baking' we can make your tapes temporarily playable again. We then can make a digital or analog transfer of the original material, thus preserving your work for future generations to hear!

Media Transfer

Dubway can transfer your music to and from almost any media; vinyl, cassette, CD, DA88, 16 or 20 bit ADAT, 2" 24 track, 1/2" 8 track or 2 track, 1/4" 4 track or 2 track, all file formats (wav, SDII, MP3, aiff), Digital Performer, or Pro Tools.

Home Consultation

Dubway was started by musicians for musicians. The studio's longevity is testimony to its attention to the changing needs of the modern musician. One of those changes is the advent of the home based recording studio.

Now, Dubway engineers can work with you on-site to help you "get your room right." Some advice on software interfacing, computer hook-up, file management, or back-up methods can vastly enhance your studio's friendliness and efficiency. An audio tip regarding mic technique, speaker placement, or mixing may significantly improve the sound of your productions. From how to get a great vocal at home to how to best prepare your tracks for interfacing with the professional studio environment, a little pro advice can go a long way.

We have been working with home studios for several years as they have become more and more a legitimate force in audio production. Dubway has welcomed the opportunity to avail the home based studio of our acoustic rooms, microphones, processing gear, and, most of all, our staff. Now, this new service takes that opportunity just one step further.

Familiar with the issues surrounding compatibility and transfer of audio media between different systems, we can also guarantee a seamless transition between your studio and ours. If you want killer live drums, but can't do them at home, a couple of hours at Dubway may be all you need. Or perhaps you've got great tracks, but want to get that extra hi fi quality on the lead vocal. Or you've recorded it all, and just need some expertise and high end gear for a finished mix, or mastering of your own mixes. Our staff can help you to get it right.

Pro advice on-site. Give us a call and see how spending a little on the front end can save you a whole lot on the back end.

Check out what some of our home consultation clients have to say:

"Dubway's Home Recording consultation gave us invaluable insight on control room design and layout, helping us ergonomically tailor our digital audio workstation to suit our needs. They also helped us refine our digital archiving scheme and clarified some cross-platform compatibility issues with our set-up. A truly worthwhile investment in our studio."

Jason Tribiano, Collective Recordings

"Jason from Dubway came to my home and helped me improve my studio setup. He was prompt, direct, and thoroughly knowledgeable. He was also able to explain things in terms I could understand. Beyond the questions I asked, he offered inspired suggestions and tips of his own. I will definitely use the Dubway Home Consultation service again."

Diane Cluck, Home Recording Artist, NYC

"I am currently running Pro Tools at my home. I started to run into many different problems and obstacles with usage and running the Pro Tools software. I spoke with Mike Crehore at Dubway Studios. Mike offered me a very cool and relaxed onsite 'lifesaving' instruction at my home. In hours, Mike explained, instructed, advised, and corrected all my Pro Tools blunders with me, one on one! To date, we continue. You are brilliant Michael! Thank you."

A letter from Dubway's owners Al and Mike to all home recording enthusiasts.

When I started Dubway, it was essentially a home studio, but stuck in a funky room in midtown where I could make a lot of noise. Basically, a musician's studio for musicians.

So I know where you're coming from. I learned an awful lot on my own, while experimenting on unsuspecting clients. But I found my engineering chops expanded dramatically when somebody came through who might ask me to do something a little differently. And if they were actually an engineer, I might really pick up some valuable techniques. And so I just learned more and more about audio engineering, gear, and production.

But, you know, it took a long time (I'm still learning), and looking back, I think I would have benefited a lot if someone with real experience had sat down and worked with me and my setup, even for a short time.

When people bring recordings to Dubway from their home studios (to mix, or add tracks to, or whatever), they often sound great. But it's also apparent, after listening and talking to them, that some very simple suggestions could've probably helped them out.

That's why Dubway has started this "pro advice on-site" service. Getting more out of your home studio can be a very simple and inexpensive process. We've got years of all kinds of experience, and anyone who's worked with us knows we're glad to share it. Take advantage of it!

Anyway, good luck with your home recording.

Cheers,

Al Houghton
