History
Dubway Studios began in the mid-80's when Al Houghton rented a tiny room in the Music Building at 584 Eighth Avenue, in Manhattan. Al set up shop with a beat-up four-track and a single blown speaker, bravely calling it a recording studio. Al quickly made a name for himself by conjuring up amazing recordings in spite of his equipment's limitations. After years of hard work, and thousands of recordings, Al struck up a partnership with long time friend and accredited engineer Mike Crehore. Mike brought his computer expertise, and top-notch mastering skills to the studio. Together, they transformed what was once a small recording studio into a full-scale production facility.
Dubway is now located on 26th Street in the heart of Chelsea
and is a beautiful first rate studio with a tasteful blend
of vintage and state-of-the-art recording gear. The range
of work recorded at Dubway is astounding. Some of the biggest
names in the business bring their projects here, including
HBO Films, Bonfire Films, Plexi Films, VH1/MTV Networks,
and Nickelodeon. Dubway has recorded They Might Be Giants,
Amy Rigby, Leona Ness, Richard Barone, Rosie Perez, Sandra
Bernhard, Phoebe Snow, Patti Austin, and many others in
addition to several Off-Broadway shows. Dubway Studios is
managed by Steven Alvarado. Steven's past work credits include
DreamWorks Records SKG, and EMI/Starsong.
